Back from the island!

Well, vacation was not without its drama. We hadn’t even left the driveway when my sister called to tell me that there was a problem. The itinerary provided by the travel agent said we were to catch our flight at 9 in the morning on Friday the 6th. The tickets we printed the previous evening that Debbie had just looked at said our flight had already left at 5am. Oh boy. This wasn’t going to be pretty! The rest of our day was spent verbally wrestling with the airline and Alamo car rental and telling off our travel agent who managed to ruin our vacation with out us even going anywhere. It ends up that the airline changed our flight in APRIL! The travel agency was notified but the information was not shared with us. We did manage to make it to Hawaii but we lost a day in paradise. Our travel was delayed by about 12 hours. We ended up in San Francisco that night and stayed in a hotel near SFO. By morning we were waiting for our flight to Kona but the folks at United not only managed to misplace our plane for a time but they broke it as well. The delay would last another 2 hours. When we finally made it in the air it was smooth sailing.

We were so hungry for the tropics we got a little too enthusiastic and spent several hours in one of the prettiest pools I have seen. We paid the price and spent the next few days trying to recover from blistering sunburns. Even now, a week later, I am not 100%. I look like I am snowing most of the time and it’s really gross!

All that aside, though, the vacation was great. Michaela loved the sunshine, the pool, meeting the dolphins and visiting the beach. The photos tell the story best and they’re currently being uploaded. Stay tuned for a link to the photo album.
